Obamacare

I am currently working at Wimbledon so won't be posting for the next few days. However, I wanted to draw a note on the Obamacare decision. I agree with the court's judgement. As John Roberts noted, "It is not our job to protect the people from the consequences of their political choices." I believe that Obamacare is a bad law that will fail to address the key problems facing Americans and our health care. Resolving this failure is a matter for the Congress. 

I have always been a big fan of John Roberts. I believe that he is an exceptionally strong jurist. Fair minded, logical and independent of political persuasion. He was a great appointment by President Bush.

Wedding Gifts? Just donate to Obama

The Obama campaign is asking people to donate money to their re-election effort in lieu of gifts to friends. Only complete Obama fanatics would even think of doing something so absurd. Just another example of how out of touch Team Obama really are. Amidst all their failings, they still believe Obama is a quasi-god figure.

Romney - Immigration

Mitt Romney's speech on Immigration was a good one. The Republican candidate outlined a fair minded, rational plan that would allow illegal immigrants to find a confident future in the United States. In contrast to the President's politically motivated plan, Romney's approach offers a more balanced process. A process in which a President Romney would lead Congress towards comprehensive long lasting reform. Securing the borders while securing the futures of millions of illegal immigrants who contribute greatly to America's economy is an important issue. It took moral and political courage for Romney to come out against the hard elements of the Republican party who hate immigrants. An example below -

UK Striking Culture

Today British doctors are going on strike. The UK example of 'striking' should serve as a warning to Americans who believe that an increasingly left wing government is in their best interests. Far from it. It is my opinion that left wing politics create institutions and cultures of entitlement. British doctors are generally great at what they do, but when it comes to this issue, I have little sympathy. They work in the public sector and for public sector employees they are well paid. I personally would prefer a quasi private-public health care system in which good doctors could make more money (something similar to Romneycare in the US), but that is beside the point. The point is that too many public sector employees strike in the UK. The underground drivers strike because they can hold London to ransom, the bus drivers strike because they want a bonus for the Olympics, the firemen strike because they want a lot of money to work 3/4 day weeks, teachers strike because they don't want pension reform. Making public sector compensation more affordable is a central concern for governments facing tough budgetary pressures. Some say that the solution is to perpetually increase taxes, I prefer the Reagan solution. (Or the Walker solution - see wisconsin).

Europe 'Defense' Absurdity

This is typical European bs. Until Europe spends money on defense, Europe has no ability to demand anything from the United States. This incident is especially hilarious in the context of US bases in Italy and Germany. Bases that pump billions of dollars into those countries economies each and every year. This issue is frustrating me a lot.

Obama Private Sector Quote

Obama's latest quote on the economy is a real winner. Saying that the private sector is 'doing fine' is absurd. The President is presiding over a period of sustained economic deficiency. All Obama feels able to do is blame others. Blame Republicans, Blame Europeans, Blame Capitalism, Blame Bush. Just don't blame Obama.

Walker wins Wisconsin

Gov. Walker's victory in Wisconsin signals the degree to which people are sick of subsidizing huge union compensation packages. If we are going to build economies that produce long term, balanced growth, we need  stable government expenditures. Wisconsin unions wrongly thought they could continue extracting concessions.

The need for a 'big tent' GOP

On Thursday, I attended a meeting of Republicans Abroad UK in London. It was a productive gathering that should enable Republicans in the UK to provide better assistance to the task of electing Romney in November. However, towards the end of the meeting, I had a little (loud) disagreement with one lady who was in attendance. I remarked that I'm not a fan of Sarah Palin. This particular individual did not appreciate my comment and stated something along the lines of 'You've never met her!'... I responded by saying that I didn't need to. (Why I dislike Palin). In the end, the lady's husband calmed the situation down by making a comment about how the Republican Party needs to be a 'big tent' organization and that we must respect varied opinions. If he was genuine in this belief then he is absolutely right. However, my concern about Palin is that she lacks any apparent intellectual curiosity and  thinks that this is something to be proud of. It isn't. For reasons of politics and patriotism, Republicans need to put forward candidates like Paul Ryan who have a deep grasp of important issues, rather than supporting candidates who have no clue about the most basic elements of policy. When it comes to foreign policy, I take this issue extremely seriously. Put simply, when we send Americans to fight and if necessary die, we must ensure that we have serious policymakers in positions of leadership. But... if people are willing to hear me out, I will hear them out.

Obama's job numbers

I am not one of those Republicans who wish for political reasons that the economy will continue to struggle. However, it cannot be ignored that today's job numbers are terribly bad. President Obama's economic leadership continues to be exceptionally weak. I believe that the President is simply unwilling to bend his political ideology to the task of rebuilding economic growth.
