Tom, ever seen Alan Bleasdale's GBH? While it's about the Left going off its trolley rather than the right, it does say a lot about how damaging political extremism can be.
Plus, there are parallels to how the extremists took over the GOP and how Militant very nearly did likewise to Labour in the early 80s.
The key difference is that there were people in the Labour party who were willing to speak out, including Neil Kinnock. At present, the Republicans have no similar figure.
Thanks for the comment. No haven't but will try and check it out. I hope people like McCain are going to start coming out against the stupidity. Having said that, I suspect that Romney will be able to drag the party back to some normalcy once he seals the nomination. I hope at least..
